What Is Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome? (CTS)
So what exactly is Carpal Tunnel and how does one get it? Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome is a condition that occurs when people use their
hands over and over until the point where the joints are so overused
that there is constant, burning, numbing pain. In most cases, Carpal
Tunnel is commonly derived from jobs that require using your hands
excessively like a cashier, data entry clerk or simply using the
computer too much. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the most common of
all the types of repetitive strain injuries out there.
What is going on inside the body that is causing this pain? In
the hand there are tendons, which are a part of your fingers that
control each finger movement. These finger tendons pass from your
wrists through to your hand. The Carpal Tunnel, houses your median
nerve and tendons. The Median Nerve that runs through the Carpal
Tunnel becomes swollen from overuse and your hands will start to
continuously feel tingly, burning and numbness. Even though the
symptoms are most evident in the wrist and hand area, if you look
at the muscle tissues along the median nerve as well as other sources
that could influence the level of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome you suffer,
you will have a better chance of understanding what the problem
is and how to fix it.
